Bali Dayze

Two hectic days on Bali!

We started out, after our crazy adventure getting here, with a plan to get all our shopping and organising done in one day, and be on the boat to Gili Air the next day.

Obviously, because it’s easy to recover from a 24-hour delay at the airport; cancelled flights, and long-haul travel; the time-difference and late nights; and arriving to a thick, humid, hot climate. And of course I’ll manage quickly and effortlessly to organise a local SIM card for my phone; get Littletree a hat and sandals (for some reason she arrived with neither); and some new sarongs and clothes; and also book our boat tickets; and keep ourselves fed, hydrated and rested, while adjusting to the culture…

Yeah, right.

Littletree was so ecstatic to wake up and see our lush surroundings

And she was so excited to realise that just $100 exchanges for 1 million Indonesian Rupiah, so she can feel like a millionaire (yes, that counts as mathematics)!

But by the time we’d had breakfast and walked the few blocks to the beach (barefoot and in the sweltering 9am heat), Littletree was totally over it, and fed up with me harassing her to choose a hat at every shop we passed.

So we traipsed back to the hotel to relax in the pool, Littletree got to practice a bit with her new snorkel

Then, blessed be, we met another family staying at the same hotel, with a daughter about Littletree’s size. The two hit it off immediately and spent the rest of the day clowning around like mad things

And of course, we got to indulge in loads of yummy Indonesian food, Littletree was in noodle soup heaven… until she discovered the fresh, hand-made spring rolls which sent her into paroxysms of delight!

So, we decided to stay one more day and relax just a little… especially when we found a place Littletree can have a fish spa! She’s been dreaming of having another fish spa since she first tried it a year ago in Bangkok.

And now we’re all totally ready to get to Gili and just relax.

  2. Well, at least Littletree is very stylishly dressed for a girl who hasn't even started shopping yet. In spite of the distressing lack of appropriate accessories. Somebody should send her personal shopper a box of chocolates.
