Yesterday was one year, one month, one week and one day since Littletree weaned (on her fifth birthday).
So our nursing days are well and truly over. While I'm, glad to leave that behind me (because, really, five years is a long time), I also miss it sometimes (especially when Littletree just wont shut up it would be nice to stick something in her mouth sometimes LOL)
Here she is as a newborn:

I'm so glad that I was able to give Littletree such a great start in life, and I'm grateful that I was able to re-lactate after we weaned when Littletree was 2.5 years old (a hornet stung me on one nipple and it got horribly infected and gross, so I couldn't feed Littletree anymore, but we started nursing again after a few months.
It's funny; I don't have all that many nursing pics. Probably because I take 99% of the photos in this family, and it's not too easy to take photos of oneself breastfeeding.
Also I think it was just so normal for us, it didn't seem worthy of photographing. Not to mention - most people don't like having their picture taken when they're eating!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Like you & the post before me, I realized that we too are lacking in the way of nursing pics. Probably because of the reasons you sited in your post (so common, and nobody likes to be photographed while eating!) Lol ...
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos:) I'm tandem feeding Tarka who is 2yrs old and Willow who is 9 months, but my partner is the photographer in our house, so we do have lots of nursing pics! (Actually he's an almost qualified student midwife here in the uk, so it's been really good to discover your blog :)

Wow, Gina! interesting that your partner is training to be a male mw. I'm always curious about men who feel called to that path, and the unique challenges they would face practising in such a female-oriented role. (I don't personally see any reason why men shouldn't be mws if they feel so called, but I do see why a lot of women wouldn't be comfortable with me attending them)
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful pictures. We don't have any nursing pictures at all :-(( The closest thing we have is ds2 just after his birth on video, but as I am not exactly well attired, we do not show it around. LOL.
ReplyDeleteMy partner is pasionate about natural birth and breast feeding and Attachment parenting (which I suppose is quite unusual for a man anyway lol) He hasn't had any birthing women not wanting him with them for thier birth yet (except one on religious grounds)He is naturally amazing with babies and children and a very gentle, caring person. He's had so much positive feeback from the women whose labours and births he has attended. He has met a few midwives though, who don't think he should be allowed to be a midwife. I do understand that for many it is a real female energy and obviously traditionally it is a female only role, but I think he will be wonderful as he is so passionate about empowering women to believe in their innate ability to give birth. He was amazing when our third daughter was born at home, in water last August anyway!

ReplyDeleteZach is almost 5 and still nursing - but barely. I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped altogether this summer. But then again, I have been saying that since he turned 3. Thank you for sharing -- beautiful photos!
Beautiful and sad at the same time. They grow way too quickly. We are going strong at 4yrs 3mo. I do not know when she will wean. I may push her a little by late summer.
